Lahore, January 12, 2022: The Punjab Foods Authority (PFA) has launched a “Star Rating Program” in accordance with international standard. The purpose of this program is to motivate and support restaurant industry to provide good quality and service to customers. Director General Rafaqat Ali Nissoana said that this pilot project will help to determent the standards of the hotel and restaurants in Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Rawalpindi. This will create a competitive environment between the food businesses for better services. Each restaurant is marked with a star to show its ranking. This program will act as evaluating/measuring tool to reward the food businesses.

DG PFA said that Initially, PFA has decided to cover 250 restaurants for giving star rating in this pilot project and adding that mystery shoppers to be recruited and trained to evaluate the restaurants randomly and anonymously. PFA will also train their officers before introducing rating system. These anonymous people will visit different restaurants as a visitor meanwhile stars will be provided by an independent monitoring mechanism. He said that Mobile App by the name Star Rating will be launched for public also and would be available for android and iOS Phone users. He said that “Star Rating Program” is a model which is used globally to motivate and reward restaurants and to identify the overall quality and service for the restaurants to customers. This program will motivate the restaurant’s owner to improve quality and service as well as insurance of food safety and quality standards.

DG PFA added that certificates are issued by Star Rating Program for 6 month on the basis of their hygiene, safety and quality of food. After the period of 6 months, the restaurant’s owner will again apply for checking process. Under checking process of different food points and production units the quality of food, storage, kitchen area, hygiene, food handling, training and medical certificates will be monitored. He also said that this program will also help customers about to provide knowledge and awareness on restaurants besides selecting a place based on star rating and set expectations. Further, this program also beneficial for restaurants in order to attract quality workforce and customers along with business growth. “PFA is brining improvement through amendment in the provincial food authority law as per the international standards by following the directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan,” he said.
