According to the media reports, The two top medical universities KING EDWARD MEDICAL UNIVERSITY and FATIMA JINNAH MEDICAL UNIVERSITY have been reported to establish new departments for the sole purpose of hiring the daughter of Dr. Yasmeen Rashid, Punjab Health Minister.
Dr. Yasmeen Rashid remained silent at first but after alot of fuss she tweeted in favour of her daughter saying that all the decisions were made on merit but after 23 minutes of this tweet she deleted it from her social media account.
Initially, The department of fetal Medicine was created at FATIMA JINNAH MEDICAL UNIVERSITY just to hire Dr. Ayesha, the daughter of the Punjab Health Minister Dr. Yasmeen Rashid.
She was appointed as Assistant professor of Fetal Medicine but other candidates stood up against the decision and told that this is only because of favouritism. They told that they were ignored for no reason.
After failing to get her daughter a seat in the newly made departments of FATIMA JINNAH MEDICAL UNIVERSITY Dr. Yasmeen Rashid made another effort for her by creating a new department at KEMU and this time she succeeded in getting her a seat as Assistant professor of foetal medicine in grade 19.
New appointments are always made on contract basis but Dr. Ayesha was granted a permanent position at KEMU.
Many questions arose after this recruitment and the Health Minister Dr. Yasmeen Rashid tweeted in favour of her daughter Dr. Ayesha saying : “We believe in merit and support it at every level. My daughter, Dr. Ayesha is a fetal medicine specialist and a practitioner in the UK. She was selected as Assistant professor of foetal medicine on merit basis. She has left her job in UK. And she will join the position in four weeks. The hiring was purely made on merit basis without any biases and influence. “
And after 23 minutes this tweet was deleted by the Punjab Health Minister Dr. Yasmeen Rashid.
Two senior doctors at KEMU told that the Vice Chancellor of the university has been planning this for a very long time and all this was done only to create a seat for the Minister’s daughter. They also told that the VC of KEMU didn’t got any approval from anybody and appointed her disgracing merit. And the evidence will soon come to the fore.
This rose a question mark on the most prestigious medical university of Pakistan. And the question arises when will the Ministers stop giving benefit to their families and start to think about the public.
